We, the undersigned, call on the Government of Nunavut to create a route to certified plug-in solar that reflects community electricity systems and the housing arrangements of the people who would use it.
Allow certified systems up to 1200W on a standard 120V outlet, for on-site use without requiring net metering. Qualifying systems should need no permit or electrician for the plug-in connection and should shut off automatically when grid power fails.
Work with Qulliq Energy Corporation and electrical authorities to publish the connection conditions for each community. Work with housing providers to explain equipment permissions and how electricity charges affect the benefit to residents, including public-housing tenants.
Give households a clear way to assess and use solar during the seasons when it is available. State the local requirements and the steps needed to make participation possible.
